These small coins are commonly known as wire money as they were struck on flans cut from lengths of wire.  All have shear marks at the ends, resulting from how the wire was cut up.  The flans are generally smaller than the dies, so only very rarely will very well centered specimens with everything on the flan be encountered (never for some issues).

Denomination
: Silver Kopek.

Date : This example is dated 1709 via the cyrillic letter date codes.

Size : 10.7 x 6.9 mm.  Weight : 0.31 grams.  This is a fairly small coin.

Grade : VF, with much of the reverse inscription showing.  The obverse is somewhat off center with respect to the horse man, but because of this the date can be read.

Obverse : Horseman riding right, with part of a Cyrillic letters for 1709 below.

Reverse : Cyrillic inscription naming Peter as Czar.

Below is a composite of most of the reverse inscription as it might have appeared on the dies, although the exact letter forms on each die could vary considerably, and so this is only a theoretical die.   One think that can cause confusion, is that the T in PETER often looks more like an M on many specimens
