Roman Province of Syria under Q. Caecilius Bassus.

Denomination : Silver tetradrachm. Mint : Antioch

Reference : Sear-7214 variety.  Prieur 5.

Date : Issue of 46 BC.

Size : 24.8 x 25.5 mm. Weight : 15.64 grams.

Grade : gVF/XF

Obverse : Head of Philip Philadelphos right.

Reverse : Zeus seated , with BASILEWS FILIPPOU EPIFANOUS FILADELFOU in four lines to the sides (a few letters ares off the flan which is normal for these as the flans were generally smaller than the dies and so could not take the entire inscription). By Zeus' leg there is an ANT monogram for Antioch mint. There is a Greek date code D below, which stands for year 4 of the liberty of the city, indicating this coin was struck in 46 BC under Q. Caecilius Bassus.

This is a very well-struck and relatively high grade example for one of these.
