Nero Claudius Drusus. Struck under Claudius in AD 41 to 42.

Denomination : Silver denarius. Mint : Lugdunum.  Reference : Sear-1894.

Size : 17.7 x 19.1  mm. Weight : 3.69 grams.

Grade : VF, attractively toned.

Obverse : Head of Nero Claudius Drusus left, with NERO CLAVDIVS DRVSVS GERMANICVS IMP around.

Reverse : Wide single-span triumphal arch, surmounted by equestrian statue between two trophies, with DE GERMANIS on the architrave.

Nero Claudius Drusus was married to Antonia (daughter of mark Antony and Octavia).  They had two son's, Germanicus and the furture Emperor Claudius (who struck this coin to commemorate his father).    The reverse commemorates his victory over the Germans between 12 and 9 BC, and the arch depicted on the reverse is through to be the one for which some parts still remain near the Trevi Fountain in Rome.
