zoom view

Denomination : AE 26. Mint  : Marcianopolis in Moesia Inferior.

Size : 26.0 x 27.6 mm. Weight : 12.27 grams.

Reference : I have not yet found a reference for this type, but my available references on this series are limited.

Grade : Fine with areas of minor roughness.  The patina is a dark green-brown, without as much bright green as the image suggests. While worn, in the hand this is still a reasonable attractive specimen.

Obverse : Head of Macrinus on the left, and Diadumenian on the right, facing in towards each other, with a long Greek inscription naming them, around. Only parts of the inscription show, but what you can see reads OPEA CEV MAKREINOC K M M OPPE ANTON but the last part with diadumenian's name is not clear.

Reverse : Tyche (as Fortuna) holding a rudder and cornucoopiae, with VP PONTIANOV MARKIANOPOEITWN around (the first part of the inscription is not struck up.
