Philip II was Alexander the Great's father.

Denomination : Gold stater.  Mint : Pella

Date : ca. 340 to 328 BC (which means it could be either lifetime of Philip II or struck posthumously under Alexander the Great).

Reference : SNG ANS 260ff.

Size : 16.5 X 17.0 mm.  Weight : 8.54 grams.

Grade : gVF/XF  with a considerable amount of the original lustre remaining.

Obverse : Head of Apollo right.  The small green spot on the laurel is a deposit on the surface which could be removed, but I saw no need to do so.

Reverse : Charioteer driving a bigga right, holding a goad over the horses heads, with FILIPPOY in the exergue, with a thunderbolt below the horses fore legs.
