Denomination : Silver tetradrachm.  Mint : Paphos.

Date : Price dates this issue from 325 to 317 BC, so it can be considered a lifetime issue as it begins during the last two years of Alexanders life, but struck under Nikokles as King of Paphos.

Reference : Price-3116.

Size : 25.0 x 26.0 mm.  Weight : 17.17 grams.

Grade : gVF but there are numerous small scratches in the reverse fields.  While some of them may be the result of cleaning, those below Zeus arm (and above the small bird) appear to be ancient graffite and may actually say something in Phoenician.

Obverse : Head of Herakles right, wearing the lion's skin.

Reverse : Zeus seated left, holding a sceptre and eagle with a smaller bird below his arm, with ALEXANDROU to the right.

Provenance : ex Darcy Phalen collection.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS COIN IS ATTRIBUTED TO A CYPRIOT MINT, AND THERE ARE SOME COUNTRIES INCLUDING THE USA TO WHICH IT CANNOT BE SENT. DO NOT ORDER THIS COIN UNLESS YOU ARE CERTAIN YOU CAN LEGALLY IMPORT IT TO THE COUNTRY IN WHICH YOU LIVE.
