zoom view

Denomination : Silver drachm.

Mint : This coin came to me attributed to Lampsacus, but I do not believe this to be correct..  The symbol below Zeus' arm only vaguely resembles the foreparts of Pegasis on Lampsacus issues, but the lack of a symbol or letter below the throne is incosistent with those.  The general style of the coin is also inconsistent with Lampsacus.

At this point, I have found no alternative for what the symbol is, so cannot attribute it to a particular mint or specific time period.

Date
: Posthumous issue, but exact dating uncertain, although probably not after 285 BC.

Reference : Price - does not appear to be listed.

Size : 17.3 x 17.9 mm.  Weight : 4.11 grams.

Grade : XF and well centred.

Obverse : Head of Herakles right, wearing the lion's skin.

Reverse : Zeus seated left, holding a sceptre and eagle, with ALEXANDROU to the right, an uncertain symbol below Zeus' hand.
