Pontius Pilate was the Roman Procurator of Tiberius who presided over the trial of Christ.

Denomination : AE 17, probably a Prutah

Date : AD 31 to 32

Reference : Sear Greek Imperial - 5643 variety. 

Size : 14.7 x 15.6 mm. Weight : 1.37 grams.

Grade : VF with close to to full obverse inscription, but some reverse weakness around the edges.

Obverse :  Lituus (astrologers staff) with TIBERIOU KAICAROC around.

Reverse : The date mark L C in a wreath.  This date mark  is an error, probably a badly engraved LIZ for year-17 of Tiberius, which is AD 30 to 31.
