Pontius Pilate was the Roman Procurator of Tiberius who presided over the trial of Christ.

Denomination : AE 16 probably a Prutah

Date : AD 30 to 31 (marked LIZ for year 17 of Tiberius).

Reference : Sear Greek Imperial - 5623.

Size : 13.7 x 14.5 mm.  Weight : 1.52 grams.

Grade : VF with the typical incomplete strike.   The date mark is very clear.

Obverse :  Lituus (astrologers staff) with TIBERIOU KAICAROC around but only parts of the inscription are on the flan.

Reverse : The date mark LIZ  in a wreath.  This date mark stands for year-17 of Tiberius, which is AD 30 to 31.
