M Ambibulus was a Roman Procurator in Judaea during the time of Augustus.

Denomination : AE 17.  Mint : Caesarea.

Date : year-40 of Augustus = AD 10 to 11.

Reference : Greek Imperial Coinage #5608.

Size : 15.6 x 16.2 mm.  Weight : 1.34 grams.

Grade : F, very dark green patina highlighted with lighter earthy deposits. 

Obverse : Ear of Barly with KAICROC around (Greek for Caesar).

Reverse : Palm tree with Greek L  M to the side.  The L means "what follows is a date" and the M means 40, thus this coin was struck in the 40th year of the reign of Augustus.
