Taxila is a city just east of the Indus river in what is now Northern Pakistan, and was a major commercial city on the trade route between the Ganges valley and Mesopontania.

Denomination : Silver Satamana. Mint : Taxila Province.

Date : The dating of these is not well understood, and they are simply assigned to the period between 600 BC and 303 BC. It is un-likely they were made for this entire period, but they are certainly some of the earliest coinage of India.

Size : 31.2 x 11.8 mm with a distinct cuve as made. Weight : 11.29 grams.

Reference : Mitchiner, Ancient and Classical, #4071 to 4077.

Grade : Fine with some weakness in the stampings. These stamping are never complete on these as the bars are always too narrow to take the entire design.

Obverse : Two stamped radial geometric patterns, one at each end.

Reverse : blank.
