Ancient Coins - Gallienus, AD 253-268. Bronze antoninianus
zoom view

Denomination : Bronze antoninianus. Mint  : Rome.

Reference : RIC V, part 1, page 144, #160k.

Size : 19.6 x 21.3   Weight : 1.53 grams.

Grade :  XF

Obverse : Radiate head of Gallienus right, with GALLIENVS AVG around.

Reverse : Sol standing left, holding a globe, with AETERNITAS AVG around, and the Greek letter G  in the left field.  The G is slightly rounded at the top.  It is unclear to me why the mint of Rome would be using Greek letter control marks, and I have to question if the attribution of this particular series of coins to Rome mint is correct.
