Milan under French Rule.  Louis XII, AD 1498 to 1515.

Denomination : Silver teston.   Mint : Milan.

Date
: not dated but struck ca. 1498 to 1515.

Size : 28.2 x 28.8 mm. Weight : 9.51 grams.

Reference : Ciani - 1001.

Grade :  VF but the fields have been tooled, and there is a mount removal on the edge.

Obverse : Head of Louis XII right, with LVDOVICVS D G FRANCORVM REX around.

Reverse : Saint Ambrose on horse back, with a shield below, and MEDIOLANI DVX around.

This coin clearly had been mounted, and the marks where the mount was removed are in a position that indicates it was worn with the image of Saint Ambrose showing.  There are heavy tooling marks in the fields, which would have made the coin look very bright when made into jewellery.  It is not unusual to see such mount marks and tooling marks on larger silver coins from this period, but it significantly reduces the value.
