This type is struck in the style of Herbert I who ruled Maine from AD 1015 to 1036, but the rather crude style is typical of coins struck for almost 200 years after he died.  This example is particularly crude and may be a very late one.

Denomination : Silver Denier.  Mint : Maine.

Size : 20.1 x 20.6 mm.  Weight : 1.10 grams.

Reference : Roberts-4122 variety

Grade : Fine but very crude.   The coppery area is an adhesion on the surface which might be removable with with difficulty.

Obverse : Monogram Herbert I, with COMES CENOMANIS around.

Reverse : Short cross with two pellets, A and W in the angles, with SISINUM DEI VIVI around.  The Alp[ha and Omega are very crudely drawn.
