Elis was a town in the Peloponnese near Olympia, and which controlled the Olympic games held every four years.  The town was probably only a hub of signficant economic activity during the Olympic games as the coins struck their can probably be directly associated with the games.

Denomination : Silver hemidrachm.

Date : 276 to 260 BC.  Associated with the 126 th to 130 th Olympic games.

Size : 14.0 x 14.7 mm.  Weight : 2.44 grams.

Reference : S-2897.  BCD Olympia -214 (same dies).

Grade : VF toned to a mid grey.  The obverse is slightly off-centre.

Obverse : Laureate bust of Zeus right.

Reverse : Thunderbolt with F and A to the sides, all within an olive wreath.
