zoom view

Denomination : Copper As.  Mint : type of Rome, but barbarous.

Date : The official issue of this type was in AD 42 , but this is probably a little later.

Reference : Sear-1862 (type).

Size : 24.6 x 25.5 mm.  Weight : 6.61 grams.

The smaller than normal size, and very low weight, along with the style being a little odd, all point to this being a barbarous imitation of a Claudius As.

Grade : goof Fine, but a liittle rough. Mottled mid to dark brown patina.

Obverse : Head of Claudius left, with TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP P P around, but much of the inscription is off the flan.

Reverse : Minerva in fighting pose right, holding spear and shield, with S C to her sides.
