Denomination : Silver stater.

Reference : Sear-5646, SNG Levanten 83 variety, SNG VA 5948.

Size : 21.3 X 23.5 mm.  Weight : 10.48 grams.

Grade : XF, minor areas of roughness.

Obverse : Baal enthroned right but slightly facing, inside of a ring of small X's, with an Aramaic inscription to the left, which means "BAAL TARZ".

Reverse : Datames standing left raising his hand in veneration towards Ana the sky-god who is pointing toward Datames, with a thymiaterion and an Aramaic legend naming "TADNMU" between them.  There is also a short Aramaic inscription naming the god Ana just to his left, which makes this a slightly unusual variation of this type.

An attractive specimen with good metal and nicely toned, unlike many of the examples from the recent hoard which have significant areas of light surface corrosion.

Provenance : ex Darcy Phalen collection.
