Tribe : Artrebates.

Denomination : Silver Unit

Date : ca. 50 to 30 BC.

Reference : VA-292-1 (rated as extremely rare).  Classification Atrebatic B.

Size : 11.5 x 13.4 mm. Weight : 0.80 grams.

Grade : VG/F (van Arsdell includes a comment about this type that existing examples are too poorly preserved to be described in detail, so this is a reasonbly nice example of the type).

Obverse : Outline of a male head left, with a round earring to the lower right, and an OX inscription to the left.

Reverse : Celticized horse right with one ring below the belly, and another below the neck, with a third ring but with a pellet in it, right of the ring below the neck.  There is also a Dahlia above the horse, which Van Arsdell does not describe indicating he had not seen a specimen on which this feature was visible.

On one could call this a pretty coin, but it is fairly nice for this very rare type, with some features not normally preserved on other specimens.
