Andronicus II as Sole Reign, AD 1282 to 1295.

Denomination : Bronze trachy. Mint : Thessalonica.

Reference : Sear-2383.  Grierson-1445 (class U).

Size : 16.7 x 19.5 mm scyphate.  Weight : 1.47 grams.

Grade :  gF with a relatively strong obverse for the type (not to say the obverse is fantastic, just better than usual for one of these).

Obverse : Large Patriarchal cross with a backwards B to the left, and a wing to the right. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE IMAGE OF THE OBVERSE IS UPSIDE DOWN (I imaged it before I worked out what was on on it).

Reverse : Andronicus II standing forward, holding a cross in a circle on a staff, and a labarum-headed sceptre.  The lower part is off the flan, but this is still nicer than usual for these normally very poorly struck coins.
