Cnut ws born a Viking, son of King Swein forkbeard of Denmark. He arrived in England as an invader in 1014 where he was proclaimed King by his troups, but was driven out. He returned in 1016 and was this time successful in establishing himself as as King, marrying Emma of Normandy (widow of Aehelred II) to legitimize his claim.

Denomination : Silver Penny.

Date : Quatrefoil type, issued between AD 1017 and 1023.

Size : 19.7 x 20.0 mm.  Weight : 1.25 grams.

Grade : gXF or better (as struck) with just a few slightly weak letters.

Obverse : Crowned bust of Cnut left, with CNUT REX ANGLO around.

Reverse : Long voided cross with a central pellet, over laying a quadrefoil, with PVLFSIG ON GRA around (The P is a medieval W on this coin).
