Bohemia and Austria. Enns.

This coin was struck by Attokar II as King of Bohemia and Duke of Austria, between 1261 and 1276.  We have listed it under Austria as the coin style is part of the Austrian series, but one could also list it as a Bohemian coin.

Denomination : Silver pfennig.  Mint : Ennis.

Size
: 12.3 x 13.8 mm. Weight : 0.52 grams.

Reference : Szego-77

Grade : VF, but the small size and low weight suggest this coin may be slightly clipped.

Obverse : Austrian shield between two fish.

Reverse : Crowned head of Albrecht facing, in a six lobed dorder, but only traces of the design are visible.

This coin was struck by the vierschlag method where by the reverse is struck first, and then the coin is turned over and the obverse is struck.  In the process of striking the obverse, most of the reverse is obliterated (specimens with strong reverses do not exist).
