zoom view

Denomination : Silver 1/2 Kreuzer.  Mint : Salzburg.

Date : 1537

Size : 15.0 x 15.7 mm.  Weight : 0.56 grams.

Reference : Saurma 898/383

Grade : VF, possibly slightly clipped.  The specimens of this type, and of the series before and after this type, illustrated by Saurma are centered on the flan in about the same way, suggesting that the coin might not be clipped but rather was just struck this way.

Obverse : Tri-lobed arms with a Cardinals hat at the top, with the date 37 (for 1537) below.  I assume the three part arms are those of Matthaus Lang, the city of Salzburg, plus one that I do not recognize.  Only part of the date is on the flan (enough to tell it is "37").

Reverse : Blank (this is a uniface coin).
