zoom view

Aelia Flaccilla was the first wife of Theodosius I and the mother of both Arcadius and Honorius.

Denomination : AE 4.  Mint : Antioch, uncertain officina.

Reference : LRBC 2801-05.

Size : 13.5 x 14.5 mm.   Weight : 2.36 grams (heavy for this type).

This is is a fairly small coin.

Grade : VF but some of the inscriptions run off the flan.  Dark brown patina.

Obverse : Diademed head of Aelia Flaccilla right with AELIA FLACCILLA AVG around.

Reverse : Flaccilla seated on a low throne, forward with her hands folded over her breast, with a cross in the upper right field, with GLORIA ROMANORVM around, with ANT (G) below.  The ANT is clear, but only part of the officina mark is there, and my reading of it as a G is not 100% certain.
