A silver tetradrachm from Syracuse, minted during the 2nd Republic, circa 450 BC.


The obverse with a four horse chariot, the symbol of the Syracusan aristocracy. The charioteer holding the reins and leaning forwards, the goddess of victory flies above, crowning the horses with a laurel wreath.


The reverse with the head of Arethusa, her hair tied back and bound by a pearl diadem, four dolphins swim around her. The inscription reading:
