Silver stater from Velia, on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, South Western Italy, circa 334 - 300 BC.
 
The obverse with the head of Athena, wearing Phrygian helmet with tall horsehair crest, a centauress galloping across the side, her hair rushing out from underneath.
 
Small monogram behind neck guard of helmet.
 
The reverse with a lion, tearing at its prey. The inscription below reading:
 
YEΛHTΩN
 
"Of Velia"
 
A beautiful coin with a magnificent head of Athena, once part of the prestigious Prowe collection, Moscow.
