Macedonian Kingdom: Alexander III AV stater, 336-323 BC, 8.46gm, struck in Istrus ca. 245-240 BC, 19.1mm.  Obv: Head of Athena right, wearing ear pendant, necklace, and crested Corinthian helmet decorated with snake.  Rev: Nike with open wings, wearing long chiton, standing left, holding stylis with left hand, wreath in raised right hand; in field left, quiver; below wings, monograms; AΛEΞANΔPOY in right field.  Price p180, 963; A. Vîlcu and E. Petac, “The Second Syrian War and Gold Staters of Alexander Type Struck at Istros,” AJN 24 (2012), 58 and pl.8, 11 (these dies, attributed to the mint of Gaziura in Pontus).  EF, beautiful hellenistic style in high relief with some original luster, perfect centering, very rare issue (only three other specimens known).
