Maximinus I AE25 of Anchialus. Laureate head right / AGCIALEWN, three female figures (Demeter, Persephone & Hecate?), wearing long dresses, standing together. Moushmov 2909.
No.2592. Fine and rare.
Moushmov calls them the "Three Graces standing dressed", but they are more likely Demeter, Persephone, and Hecate. Hecate figures in the story of Persephone~s abduction by Hades, as the one who hears Persephone~s cries and mediates the outcome by which Persephone spends alternate six month seasonal cycles in the underworld and with her mother Demeter.
