zoom view
Vera Cruz Terracotta Ballplayer - a nice example of a hollow pottery ballplayer complete with a hip yoke. The figure measures 117mm (4-1/2 inches) tall. The figure has been repaired from two pieces and is missing his left toes and has a few small holes in the front.. This ballgame known in Nahuatl (the language of the Aztecs) as Ullamalitzli was one of the most striking hallmarks of prehispanic Mesoamerica and every community of any size must have boasted at least one ballcourt. Mexico, c AD 600-900. ex. estate of Alex Gordon NYC.
