| Comments |
The Nolambas were a powerful dynasty that ruled large sections of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh during the period from 735 to the late 11th century. However, their coinage is little known and very rare. This coin type has been recently attributed and published in: Govindraya Prabhu S.: The Nolambas: Coinage and History,Manipal, 2009. Previously unknown, the type was discovered recently in a small hoard of about 10 coins. Note that this specimen has a central lotus consisting of 8 pellets (the center one and 7 "petals"), as in Prabhu 37-39. | |
