DIOCLETIAN AE ANTONINIANUS Antioch Mint 285 AD Obverse: IMP C C VAVL [sic] DIOCLETIANVS PF AVG Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right Reverse: VICTORIA AVG Victory at left, facing right with wreath and palm frond towards emperor, at right holding globe and spear; Z between; XXI in exergue References: RIC 326 Very Rare Variant; Obverse legends should read "VAL" Size: 21mm. 5.43g Professional Numismatic Notes: A rare engraver's error variety! Likely this was the first die created for this series, and this very example may be a trial strike. The issues proceeding this issue are of significantly reduced weight and have the correct legends.
