Diadumenian, as Caesar. Sestertius struck under his father Macrinus. Rome. AD 217, 32 x 39 mm. 26.9 gm. Obv: M OPEL DIADVMENIANVS CAES, bare-headed and draped bust right. Rev. [PRINC IVVENTVTIS / S C] , Diadumenian standing left, holding baton and sceptre; aquila and signa to right. RIC IV 215. Cohen 13. BMCRE 149. VIDEO An intriguing item, the lower portion of the coin was flattened and affixed to a bronze plate, possibly for use as a phalera or military decoration.
