Rashtrakuta empire Gunatunga (c. 775-900 AD) AR dramma (0.4 g) Obverse: Profile bust of king right, wearing necklace Reverse: Brahmi legend Sri Guna-tunga in two lines; crescent above
Ref: Fishman & Todd, The Silver Damma, RA4.2 These coins were earlier misattributed by Mitchiner to Sankaragana, the 6th century Kalachuri king of Mahishmati. Recent research suggests, however, that Gunatunga was a Rashtrakuta ruler of the 8th century. Our specimen has the king's full name clearly visible. RR. |
