Description

Kings of Macedon. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AR hemiobol (7mm, 0.33g). Posthumous Arabian(?) imitation. Head of Herakles r., wearing lion skin headdress r.; O on cheek / Zeus seated. on throne holding eagle and scepter. Cf. Price 3478 for prototype. Otherwise apparently unpublished. The prominent O on Herakles’ cheek is reminiscent of the value mark letters found in the same location on imitation Athenian types struck by the Sabaeans.
