17th Century Token, London, Fleet Street, Temple Bar, HC of the Cock Ale House, Farthing, 1655, cockerel, legend surrounding, star at top both sides, *THE. COCK. ALE. HOVSE, rev. .C. over H M, beaded circles and legend surrounding, *AT. TEMPLE. BARR, weight 0.86g (Boyne 855 (Fleet Street); BW 3037). Toned and very porous, slightly bent, poor to about fine.
 
This tavern was originally located at 190 Fleet Street, the north side, having been established by 1549.It was closed and demolished in 1886 and a new Cock Tavern built at 22 Fleet Street which exists as a pub and eatery to this day.
Provenance:
Accompanied with a ticket stating the token is ex Greenall collection.
