Quinarius
The Roman Quinarius (plural quinarii) was a coin valued at half a denarius. During the Roman Republic, quinarius types generally copied the denarius, although denominationally marked with a V instead of an X. The quinarius was struck sporadically during the Roman empire with the last quinarii being struck under the tetrarchy. One school of thought suggests that quinarii were struck as ceremonial issues to be handed out during festivals and other events. Imperial quinarii are generally rare, particularly in the late 1st and and 2nd centuries AD. Collectors who like a challenge should consider collecting Roman quinarii.
