Historically the moneyer L. Lucretius Trio remains unknown, however, the time was one of power for the Roman people. In the year 74 BC, Nicomedes IV of Bithynia (northern Asia Minor) bequeathed his land to the Roman Senate upon his death that year. Mithridates VI of Pontus was defeated by Roman forces at the battle of Cyzicus (western Asia Minor). Marcus Antonius (the father of Mark Antony) was given considerable resources to fight pirates in the western Mediterranean. Rome was on the rise.

This coin type is one of the more delightful in the Republican series a boy/infant gleefully riding a dolphin.
