zoom view
Imperator: Octavian. Obverse: Bare head of Octavian right. Reverse: CAESAR DIVI F Pax draped, standing facing, head left, holding and olive branch and cornucopiae. Mint & Date of Striking: Italian Mint (Rome?) 32-31 BC. References: RIC I 252 SCARCE. Size/Denomination/Weight: 20mm, AR Silver Denarius, 3.40g. VF and attractive coin of Octavian! Octavian was to become the first Roman emperor, Augustus in 27BC. This coin was struck after the death of Julius Caesar (evident by the "CAESAR DIVI" legends on the reverse). This coin is a classic type, conveying peace to the Roman people, and representing one of the first coins to show the imperator before their death. The coin shows excellent detail, and has a wonderful tone! Irregular edge shaping (which was done during minting), and a small hole do nothing to detract from this coin's amazing appeal and beauty.
