Reverse: HERCVL ROMAN AVGV in three broken lines flanking the club of Hercules, all within laurel wreath. Mint & Date of Striking: Rome Mint 177-192 AD. References: RIC III 251. Size/Denomination/Weight: 17mm, AR Silver Denarius, 3.21g. Commodus thought of himself as Hercules. He went so far as to have mock gladiatorial games where he would kill things. He had this coin minted to show the public this "vision". This is a very popular coin and is in great condition for the type. Typically these coins are on beat up flans and with bad metal defects. This one is actually quite attractive.
