SELEUCUS III SOTER  226-223 BC. Silver tetradrachm 17,01 g.
diademed head of Seleucus 111 right./ apollo seated left on Omphalos, examining arrow held in
right hand and resting left hand on grounded bow. monogram in left and right fields.
WSM 1029. Antioche de Syrie 31-74 ( Obverse die A3).

This tetradrachm was struck from the same dies  previously used to produce the famous gold Octodrachm,
now in the Archaeological Museum in ankara. ( Houghton  CSE 58).
This tetradrachm possessing a strong portrait. extremely fine and  sharply struck.
Seleucus was assassinated by a clique of his own officers led by Nicanor and Apaturias, the latter  a chieftain
of Gaulish mercenaries.
Seleucus Ceraunus was the elder brother of the future Antiochus the Great.
