Baktrian and Indo-Greek coins are particularly fascinating, even today. They once ruled over a long
forgotten greek empire ,partly in Modern Afghanistan ! They record the names of rulers otherwise
unknown to history.  They give prove of the incredible reach of Greek civilization towards Asia, the silkroad
to China, towards the mysterious lands of  Samarkand. After the conquest of
Alexander the Great an
independant kingdom(s) was established. One of the few Greek kings to be mentioned in contemporary
literature was Menander, who converted to Buddhism. According to ancient history after the dead of
Menander, his widow Agathokleia ruled as Queen-regent for their young son Strato.
Mainly in the Punjab and Gandhara. According to history the reign of Menander was  prosperous.
Like the other Greek kings in Baktria their portraits are  unequalled for  their beauty and individuality.
they bear witness of great West-european personality,s ruling in the far east !
