Demetrius was the first of Alexander,s successors to portray himself on coinage with a devine attribute,
a bull,s horn. He introduced this portrait type ca. 291 BC., shortly after Demetrius took possession of the
Macedonian kingdom. His divine patron, Poseidon, was portrayed in several different poses on his coinage,
but the majority of the Macedonian issues show the god at rest, symbolizing the fullfillment of his
protege,s goal.
