a very rare mint. This interesting tetradrachm is beautiful toned a chocolate brown. a portrait in excellent
style.

The reign of Grypos differed from that of his successors chiefly in its length, twenty five years.
He was murdered by his general Heracleon in 96 BC, and after him Syria endured seven more Seleucid
kings. There was almost continuous civil war. At last the great empire of Seleucus Nicator, reaching
almost 2500 miles from the Hindu Kush to Macedonia was now little more than a memory.
Ofcourse Rome saw all of this and at the end, after the wars with Mithradates VI of Pontos, the victory
at Nicopolis in Pontos ( with Pompey,s overwhelming victory), Syria became a Roman province.
