ALEXANDER 1 BALAS. ( 152-145 B.C.).  SILVER TETRADRACHM OF 16,71 GRAMS.
STRUCK IN ANTIOCH. OCT. 149 TO OCT. 148 B.C.

Diademed head of Alexander right with fillet border.- zeus with chlamis draped over left
shoulder and legs. seated to left on throne, holds wreath/bearing nike in outstretched r.,
rets l. on sceptre. On left outside inscription, cornucopiae. In exergue  iep . series 1 dated issues.
SMA 145. Extremely fine.


Alexander spend most of his time in the southern portion of his dominions, particularly at Ake/Ptolemais
or in Phoenicia.. However the mint of  Antioch never lost its importance and continued  to coin.
As yet no coins of Alexander have been published of the series attributable to Antioch, bearing
the date B E P, the last year of his reign and the one in which Antioch fell to the new ruler.
