Agathocles and the closely related ruler Pantaleon ( maybe his brother !) controlled
territories south of the Hindu Kush, including Taxila. Both paid homage to a very unusual
cult, that of Zeus Hecatephorus ( bearer of Hecate), who was portrayed standing on the
Attic-weight coinage of Agathocles, and enthroned on the corresponding coinage of
Pantaleon. This last triumphant survivor of Demetrius four sons ( see our coin DEMI), set
up his capital at Taxila. He also struck a number of Commemorative coins or medals
of the Greek kings who had preceded him in Bactria and India. Agathocles ruled for about
fifteen years and his reign appears to have been prosperous and secure.  His coins are very
similar to those of Euthydemus II that the two must be close in date. THey also share the
same monograms on the reverse. As reverse type Zeus holds in his hand Hecate, carrying
two torches, instead of the more usual Nike.
In Tritonsale XV some rare drachms of the Indo-Greek Kings fetched high prices.
