SAMANID
Samanid AE Fals, , Ahmad b.Asad, in Fergana, 204-250AH / 819-864AD, Mint: Samarkand, Date: 244H
While the early Samanid governors of the east did not have the right to strike gold or silver in their own names, they appear to have been the only dynasty at this time to have struck a regular copper coinage. This was often of artistic design, and, as with most Islamic copper, was intended only for local circulation. The later Samanid gold and silver portrayed the ruler as an Abbasid governor, always inscribing his name with that of the caliph, but the copper coins gave the impression that he was an autonomous ruler, with only his name mentioned.
