North African red slip ware. The fragment depicts a Christogram or Chirho with Alpha and Omega, lambs and a dove. ca. 4th-5th cent. C.E. The Chirho or Christogram comprises the first two letters of Christ. The Greek letters Α and Ω, the first and last in the Greek alphabet illustrate that Jesus was the first and the last. The dove represents the soul. The lamb as the Lamb of God represents Jesus.

In Tunisia in the 4th-6th centuries C.E. there was an extensive pottery industry making lamps, table ware, storage vessels tiles and other items. Many of the vessels are decorated with motifs and symbolism from the Old and New Testaments. The motifs are applied, engraved, stamped or incorporated in a mould.
