AE Tritartemorion 15.55g. 27mm. Alexandria Mint
Head of Demeter (or Isis) r. with corkscrew curls, wreathed in grain.
Eagle standing l. with spread wings on thunderbolt; PA monogram in l. field.
BASILEWS PTOLEMAIOU
CPE B647; Svoronos 1384
Green-brown mottled patina. Decent portrait for the grade.
Some rough adhesions.
The portrait on this type has long been identified as Isis, though has recently been reidentified as Demeter. The intentional similarities between the two deities in Ptolemaic Egypt make either plausible.
