AR Antoninianus 3.39g. 20mm. 243-244 A.D. Antioch mint
Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust, r.
IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG
Securitas standing l., legs crossed, holding sceptre and leaning on column.
SECVRITAS PERPETVA
cf. RIC IV 153 (Rome); cf. RSC IV 336 (Rome)
Lightly toned with much lustre. Seemingly quite rare.
Weakly struck centers. Some light porosity.
The portrait style, the style of the legends, the low weight, and the compact flan all indicate an Antioch origin, though Antioch is unlisted for this type. Seemingly quite rare, with just a few examples seen at auction.
