Edward VI (1547-53), gold Crown of Five Shillings, second period (24th January 1549-18th December 1550), Southwark Mint, crowned armoured bust right, Latin legend with beaded borders surrounding both sides, initial mark Y, pellet and comma stops, .EDWARD; VI: D; G; AGL; .FRA; Z: HIB; REX., rev. struck en medaille, crowned oval quartered shield in frame, crown intrudes legend to top of coin, pellet stops in legend, no initial mark, SCVTVM: FIDEI: PROTEGET: EVM., weight 2.85g (cf.Schneider 688; N.1914; S.2442). Toned, lightly creased, a bold to good very fine and very rare.
 
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Edward the Sixth, by the Grace of God, King of England, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "The shield of faith shall protect him."
