Date : After 1497

Size : 27.5 x 29.5 mm.  Weight : 6.66 grams.

Grade : VF with a reasonable strike for one of these, but parts of the inscriptions are off the flan.

Obverse : Crowned shield, flanked by an (dot) / / (dot) to the left and an O over the denomination mark II to the right, with FERNANDVS ET ELISABE around (part of the inscription is off the flan).

Reverse : Cluster of arrows with an ornate ribbon above, with REX ET REGINA CASTELE LEGIO around (only the tops of many letters are off the flan), and an R mint control mark in the right field.

These are often sold as the money that financed Columbus, although this type was not issued some years after Columbus first sailed in 1492.
